Programme of Works – Development of Site
June 2017 will see a commencement to the project on all on blocks including block 7 which we will be completing foundation works. Block 2 will soon be beginning scaffolding works and this will be visible from the hording enclosing the site and block 6 now has 60% of the grounds work completed.
We have been working with statutory agencies over the last couple of weeks to be able to progress the site in respect of the future water and gas access on the Cambium Site. There is a temporary traffic light system in place along Princes Way and Victoria Drive to control traffic during these works. These works have almost finished completion for water and gas accessibility, the full completion for this will be finished by the end of July with the installation of electrical systems.
The site’s new Community Liaison Coordinator, Hannah, has been busy getting to know the local businesses and schools surrounding the site.
McLaren contributed towards an inflatable slide at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Primary School’s Summer Fete and regular liaison is in place to organise educational events for the children.
The Cambium site recently received a score of 42 out of 50 with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS). Alongside the high score, the site was also awarded a ‘Performance Beyond Compliance’ Certificate from CCS, this outlines how the site team has exceeded expectations to achieve highest levels of safety, appearance, workforce, environment, and community.
In order to actively promote employment and training within the local community, the Cambium Site (Victoria Drive) team have worked closely with our partners Wandsworth Council, to deliver an open day for South Thames College leavers. The open day took place on the 13/06/2017 and involved nine college graduates who had completed the bricklaying course but had limited experience on a live construction site.
The aim of the open days are to improve the employment opportunities for those people locally and help combat the lack of work in the area, in particular those who wish to change careers, start their career journey and to look to educate themselves into an ever expanding sector.
The day was a success and we hope to see some of graduates will start work experience in the concurrent weeks and have the possibility of apprentice places within the site.
