Road Naming Competition

Construction partners Lendlease ran a road-naming competition at the local school across the road from the development.

Councillor Jonathan Cook visited the local Our Lady Queen Of Heaven School after the ground breaking ceremony alongside Lendlease and McLaren, and presented prizes to the children who entered the winning road names.

The new road names follow a royal theme, inspired by the area’s strong connections to the monarchy. They have been announced as Helena Close and Beatrice Place, after the daughters of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The roads will be opened after the development is completed in 2018.

Road Safety Talk for Local School

Due to the increase of vehicle movements planned on the Victoria Drive Cambium site, the McLaren site team organised a Road Safety talk last May for the neighbouring Our Lady Queen of Heaven School.

Ensuring public safety is a key priority for McLaren Construction and so with the help of the Metropolitan Police, Project Director Myles Dawson and his team presented to the children to help them understand the importance of road safety.
Groups of around 10-12 children from the school were also given the opportunity to visit the site perimeter and were given a road safety talk by both McLaren and the Metropolitan Police.

They then had access to a seven ton lorry which they could sit in so they could see the road and themselves from the driver’s point of view. They did the same from the police car and motorbike. The kids were shown what to look out for and how to cross the roads following instruction from our road traffic marshal team.

The McLaren team commented: ‘’One of the most important things in education is to make sure children are safe. This applies to road safety and many other aspects of children’s lives, and it is especially important that everyone involved in education is aware of the dangers of building sites. At McLaren, we prioritise safety and were delighted that we were able to educate the kids about it.’’
